NIGHT GUARDS
WHY DO I NEED A NIGHT GUARD?
Getting a night guard is a really good idea if you grind your teeth at night. Teeth grinding (bruxism) is very common, and occurs when the teeth are uncontrollably clenched and gnashed together. This can cause a lot of discomfort and pain, as well as long-term oral health consequences.
A night guard can be used to cushion and protect the teeth from direct contact, reducing the risk of tooth damage and reducing strain in your mouth. This also helps prevent future jaw issues like TMJ/TMD, which are common in people who grind for a long time. Contact Premier Dental today to schedule an appointment and get the treatment you need.
DID YOU KNOW…
About 1 in 3 people suffer from teeth grinding. Left untreated, grinding can cause oral pain, cracks and damage to the teeth, and premature wear, as well as jaw issues.

How it works: The night guard fitting process
INITIAL CONSULTATION
To begin, you’ll need to visit dentist at Premier Dental to discuss your oral health. Your dentist will examine your teeth, look for signs of severe grinding, and determine whether or not a night guard is needed to protect your teeth.
IMPRESSIONS OF YOUR BITE
This usually takes place during your consultation if you’re approved for treatment. Your dentist will use a set of trays and dental putty to take impressions of your teeth, which are used by a dental lab to create your night guard.
BUILDING YOUR NIGHT GUARD
You will be sent home, and your teeth impressions will be sent to a dental lab. The lab will build a night guard that matches your teeth perfectly. The interior of the night guard will be made of soft, cushioned plastic, while the outside will be made of a harder, more wear-resistant material. Typically, this covers only your upper teeth.
RECIEVE NIGHT GUARD & FOLLOW-UP
Once your night guard has been built, you’ll come back to Premier Dental to pick it up. Then, just wear it every night to protect your teeth from grinding.
